Waypoint Communities

Along Lakes to Locks Passage you will find thirty two "Waypoint Communities" -- cities, villages or hamlets that are ready to "meet and greet" you. They all offer lodging, dining and shopping opportunities; and serve as hubs to the smaller hamlets and attractions to provide a rich, and seamless, traveling experience. Within many communities you will find a Lakes to Locks Passage "Heritage Center" prominently located along the byway, ensuring that they are one of the first stops you will make.

Each Waypoint Community provides a unique theme-based experience, and all of the Waypoint Communities share the heritage of the interconnected waterway as the basis for unifying the region. Heritage Centers are often existing community museums with staff that can personalize the traveler's needs, provide information about the adjacent Waypoint Communities and nearby byway sites, attractions and activities.
